WHY IS LANGUAGE IMPORTANT?
We use language throughout our daily lives to communicate with others and to understand the world around us. How we use language is integral in realising meaning, as language allows us to make sense of abstract thoughts as well as establish rules and maintain our culture. It is crucial students develop an understanding of how language functions in order to achieve success in both school and outside the classroom. It is important that we as educators, and you as parents continue to expand our knowledge of language. Moats (2000) contends that having knowledge of language has a significant positive impact on children learning. Ultimately, this teaching provided to students gives language an opportunity to create meaningful connections with learners, thus shaping minds of the future.
